creative explosion have been somewhat tampered, with the humidity here in Sydney, mixed in with a few menopausal symptoms such as hot flushes, creating a recipe detrimental to my desire or want to handle/ work with wool. These days I am then prolific at the easel. You may ask yourself "Why a bird?", since ancient times birds have been connected with the sky and having a supernatural link between heaven and earth. They symbolize- lightness and closeness to God.I myself have dreamed of escaping my body and flying freely like a bird. This sculptural weaving will be my Blake Art Prize entry this year.
Residents of St Ives, may in fact recognize their dis-guarded wine racks, considered once as rubbish on the side of the road. These are now the intricate framework for the patchwork breast and lattice work in the weaving's wings and belly. That old cliche "one mans junk, is another man's treasure" resonates so well with me. You can see from the first image of a few sticks on the driveway, how a little imagination and vision can turn into some thing wonderful and different, using very little resource, only patience and time.
I have already taught workshops at Boonah, were community weaving projects have been so welcomed, as well as therapeutic in working fine motor skills and improving dexterity. The clients involved and their families were so enthusiastic. I hope to teach many more classes in the future and share my newly acquired skills and passion.
